Frequently Asked Questions

Why aren't my pictures uploading, and how can I resize them?

Your pictures are probably too big! You need to resize them.

  • Dimensions should not exceed 640 x 480 pixels
  • File size should not exceed 100K
  • Images straight from a digital camera are much too large!
If your image dimensions or file sizes are larger than these, they are far too big for a website to serve up quickly to your visitors. This is especially true when you have multiple oversized images on one page. Your site will load slow, and visitors may leave before the entire page is visible. If your image files are too big, your website may not even save them.

Free open source software is available to edit and resize your photos. One popular program is GIMP, which is free to download and use for any purpose. Use this program to resize your pictures before you save them to your website. You should resize your pictures to the exact size they will appear on your website, so you do not need to resize them in the editor.
